Official Bio[edit]

"HiRyS, it’s IRyS! Your seiso nephilim here to fill the world with hopium!"

A Nephilim who was once the embodiment of hope back in "The Paradise".

While she has left to set off on an adventure, she continues to deliver hope through her lyrics and songs, with determination in her voice.

She also bears the precarious and unstable dual nature of a half-demon and half-angel; this phenomenon can be observed on rare occasions, in the form of the most unpredictably yaba—*ahem*, "surprising", comments from IRyS herself. Bewildering those around her is but another unexpected charm of her duality.

IRyS, a half-demon, half-angel also known as a Nephilim, once brought hope to "The Paradise" during the ancient age. Her full name is ███████ Irys. This current era, riddled with despair and desperation, has brought upon her second awakening. She has arrived to deliver hope, with her feelings put into her lyrics and songs, and determination in her voice.
Though she tends to retain her Nephilim form, she is still quite young within her race. With emotion and "other factors," it is possible that her form may lean to either side. When that occurs, she bears a brief change in her appearance.
She does not speak of the events that preceded her second awakening. She faces ever forward, perhaps because she is Hope Incarnate, though no one knows for sure. Or could it be...
"The future is not what helps people; the future is made with our own hands.
Salvation is hypocrisy. If people know they are to be saved, they simply will not try.
From the depths of despair: a glimmer of light, the warmth of recovery.
As long as we are with hope, we live. We stand tall."

Overview[edit]

IRyS (アイリス), born on July 11th, is a Virtual Singer or "VSinger", who debuted as a member of Project: HOPE. She is a part-demon, part-angel, known as a "Nephilim", who has descended into Hololive Production. Her calming and soothing voice both compliments and reassures IRyStocrats of her angelic background. As the personification of hope, IRyS manages to make the best out of bad situations, such as descending multiple times to counter technical difficulties,[13] lovingly earning her a "Dorky" nickname from her seniors.[14]

Her angelic grace comes with a catch, being a half-demon means that she is also prone to unintentionally mischievous interactions with both her seniors and her IRyStocrats. She is also quick to make humorous remarks and puns, which can certainly prevent despair from occurring in some, while bringing it to others.

Perhaps where IRyS can make the best out of both worlds is when she is singing. Unsurprisingly, as the VSinger of Hololive EN, the power in her voice can be best heard as she gracefully reaches both high and low notes. Her debut songs, like Caesura of Despair, are an example of this, as are her multiple covers of Hololive original songs. Additionally, during IRyS' archived and unarchived karaoke streams, which are a regular occurrence in her channel, IRyStocrats are treated to pure and unedited power in her voice while singing a range of 2000s pop and Japanese pop.[15]

Personality[edit]

True to her Nephilim identity, her personality can be described as both calming, and slightly chaotic at times. She is very kind and respectful to her seniors, but can't help to act in mischievous ways. This rather playful side of her leads to memorable interactions and moments with the rest of her seniors. [16][17][18] [19] As hope descended into Hololive, she has proven to be a refuge for her IRyStocrats seeking healing and an escape from their daily routines. IRyS has consistently been able to be there for them, as she takes them on her various thrilling journeys.[20] However, IRyStocrats may also be, unintentionally, subject to her mischievous side as they encounter the devilishly mischievous side of IRyS.[21][22] Still, Hope's presences has brought much more joy to the rest of Hololive English, managing to fit right in with both the mischievous side and the angelic side of her identity.[23]

Trivia[edit]

  • Her debut announcement was preceded by an 8-hour long countdown on the official Hololive English YouTube channel. [42]
  • After making her first tweet, her account was flooded with new followers. This led to Twitter temporarily restricting her account for excessive activity. [43]
  • As a result of being unable to publish any new tweets up until the day of her debut, she resorted to updating her profile bio to communicate with her followers.[44]
  • She considers herself an introvert. She's quite shy when meeting new people but opens up more after knowing them for a while. "You need to peel the layers off, like an onion." [45]
  • She prefers Instant Ramen over Cereal because of how hot and warm it is in the morning. She's also not a fan of milk and thus doesn't drink the residue after finishing her cereal, which she prefers soft and soggy.[46]
  • Her disdain for ceiling fans is due to her perception of them being slow and inefficient at cooling a room. She also feels they look unstable and developed a discomfort towards spinning objects after watching Final Destination.[47]
  • She is a self-taught singer and considers herself 99% self-taught. Thus, she states she would not feel comfortable creating a guide on how to sing for those seeking to learn from her.[48]
  • She'd rather go to the beach over hiking in the mountains.[49]
  • Her favorite season is Spring because to her it represents Hope.[50]
  • She enjoys fireworks over lightshows although she doesn't enjoy going out in the summer when most fireworks shows take place because it tends to be hot [51]
  • She can't swim so she prefers hot springs.[52]
  • She is neutral towards pineapple on pizza however if asked to pick an option when ordering she would take pizza without pineapple.[53].
  • She is not a morning person and prefers the evening over nighttime as she feels most productive at such times.[54]
  • She likes the sound of rain but does not enjoy going out in the rain.[55]
  • She avoids eating and taking carbonated beverages a few hours before doing important singing performances.
  • She dislikes Santa.[56]
  • Her favorite bands include UNISON SQUARE GARDEN, Frederic, Orion, DAN, Yorushika and Yoasobi.[57]
  • She likes Cheese and cheese infused dishes.[58]
  • Is one of the Hololive Production VTubers with an Official Artist Channel. Other members with an Official Artist channel can be found here.
