The '''2024 Hololive New Year Cup''' was the fifth edition of the [[Hololive New Year Cup|Hololive Mario Kart tournament series]]. In this edition, both [[Tokoyami Towa|Towa]] and [[Nekomata Okayu|Okayu]] served as tournament hosts. The group raffle drew the participants into the preliminary groups on December 16, 2023. This time, the competition was a two-day event with the preliminary rounds on January 7, 2024; with the group stage and final rounds on the following day.

All 37 participants were randomly drawn into four Preliminary Groups. The winners of these four groups proceedproceeded directly to the Tsuyo cup, while the remaining 33 arewere sorted into three Group Stage groups based on their placements from the preliminary groups. The preliminaries will bewere played on Day 1. Group Stage and the final Zako and Tsuyo Cups will bewere played on Day 2.
 
The initial draw placed members via the web roulette spinning wheel. One by one, they were randomly grouped. Towa and Okayu serveserved as hosts, and they could not be placed in the same Preliminary group. Likewise, if Fuwawa and Mococo ended up in the same group, one would have to be randomly placed in a different group. Towa intendsintended for the two to race separately. Due to work schedule, Lui iswas directly placed into Group A.

On December 28, 2023, the preliminary groups were redrawn. Both Lamy and Nerissa dropped out of competition which put the number of participants down to 35. A reduction count below 36 allowsallowed the preliminary round to be completed into three groups instead of four. The same grouping restrictions pertaining to Lui, Towa, Okayu, and Fuwamoco still applied. The redraw doesdid not affect the tournament schedule.
